Don't become a statistic!
Recently, we saw one of those scared straight specials where young punks that are on the road to ruin take a trip to a maximum security prison and speak to some of the colorful characters out there to get a feel for what it's really like behind bars. It's terrifying, honest and candid, to say the least. It is probably a safe assumption that a lot of these kids change their ways and that got us thinking.
Maybe if you saw just how many startling statistics we had in store, you too could change your path. You too could rebuild your credit and kiss the credit card debt goodbye. We figured it's worth a shot. So, without further adieu, here are some credit and debt statistics aimed at setting you straight.
- The average household credit card debt is nearing ten thousand dollars. In fact, to be precise, it is at $9,312.
- It would take as many as 13 years to pay off the average household amount with an interest rate of around 14%. And as all of you know, that interest rate sounds about standard.
- In 2003, credit card companies made as much as $7.7 billion in late fees alone.
- The current outstanding debt in the United States is somewhere in the area of $800 billion.
- In 2004 alone, Americans bought as much as $2 trillion dollars worth of "stuff" on credit.
We hope that helped to shed some light on your dismal situation. You see, you are not the only person in America suffering as a result of those credit cards.
